MARION COUNTY — Marion County Supervisor of Assessments Patty Brough has announced the 2016 Disabled Persons’ and Disabled Veterans renewal forms were mailed today.
Disabled Persons Homestead Exemption provides a $2,000 reduction in a property’s EAV to a qualifying property owned and occupied by a disabled person.
A disabled person must file an annual application by the county’s due date to continue receiving the exemption. If you have not signed up, you can do so at the Supervisor of Assessment’s office in the Marion County Courthouse.
Disabled Veterans Standard Homestead Exemption provides a reduction in a property’s EAV to a qualifying property owned and occupied by a veteran with a service-connected disability certified by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
A $2,500 homestead exemption is available to a veteran with a service connected disability of at least 30 percent, but less than 50 percent; a $5,000 exemption is available to a veteran with a service-connected disability of at least 50 percent but less than 70 percent.
If a veteran has a service-connected disability of 70 percent or more then the property is exempt from taxation for homes with an equalized assessed value of less than $250,000.
If you haven’t received your forms within the next few weeks, you can obtain them by going to Room 101 at the Marion County Courthouse, or by contacting the Supervisor of Assessments Office at 549-3853. First time applicants must apply in person in the office.
