CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago Police Department and the Cook County Sheriff’s Office are teaming up to target street gangs.

In a news release, the police department says the two agencies are renewing a partnership on narcotics investigations, traffic stops and identifying and arresting people with outstanding arrest warrants.

In the release, Sheriff Tom Dart says it makes sense for the two departments to work together because gang violence and other crimes involving gang members “pose a threat to everyone in Cook County.”

The two departments have worked together before. The release explains that a similar partnership last year in the city resulted in the recovery of more than 100 guns, 43 felony arrests, and more than 200 warrant arrests.
