MASSAC COUNTY — A Metropolis man is charged with first-degree murder for allegedly shooting his wife to death Sunday at their home in Massac County.

According to Illinois State Police, 61-year-old Allan Stephens is being held in the Massac County Jail.
State Police is not releasing further details at this time saying any additional information will come from the Massac County State’s Attorney’s office.
The sheriff’s office in Massac County says it got a 911 call from Stephens around 5:30 Sunday evening while at his home in the 6500 block of Old Marion Road in Metropolis.
A sheriff’s deputy arrived shortly thereafter and confirmed that Stephens’ wife, 59-year-old Deborah D. Stephens, has suffered a gunshot wound.
She was pronounced dead at home by the Massac County Coroner’s Office. Alan Stephens was then taken into custody around 5:45 p.m.
