MARION COUNTY — A 22-year-old Chicago man was sentenced today in Marion County Court to 30 years in prison after a jury found him guilty of shooting two men at Laura Leake Park in Centralia over the summer.
Darius Holliday was given credit for 195 days served in jail and ordered to serve 3-years mandatory supervised release after he completes his sentence in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
A Marion County jury deliberated less than 3 hours in September when they returned guilty verdicts on both Class X felonies against Holliday for the June shootings of 19-year-old Devale Johnson, of Georgia, and 52-year-old Juan Hayes, of Chicago.
Both Johnson and Hayes were airlifted to St. Louis area hospitals for treatment of gunshot wounds to their legs. They were later released.
Holliday left the area after the shootings but was later apprehended in Chicago on a Marion County warrant.
