
HENDERSON, Ky. — A 20-year-old Centralia man is in a Kentucky jail on murder and other charges stemming from a police pursuit associated with the shooting deaths of two men.
According to the Henderson, Kentucky Gleaner, Joevionte Sims, of Centralia, was arrested Friday with 19-year-old Clarence Smith, of Danville, on charges of wanton endangerment of a police officer, resisting arrest and fleeing or evading the police, in relation to the police pursuit.
Both men were charged Monday with two counts each of murder in connection with the Friday shooting deaths in Morganfield, Ky., of 33-year-old Caesarrae Rapier, and 28-year-old George Black, Jr. Autopsies of both men were scheduled for Saturday.
Smith was additionally charged with reckless driving, disregarding a traffic signal and possession of marijuana.
According to the Gleaner, a gun was found in plain view inside the vehicle and when Sims was booked at the Henderson County Detention Center a “fired bullet was found in his shoe,” said Union County court papers.
A third man, 21-year-old Keyontae McGuire of Morganfield, was arrested early Saturday morning in connection with the pursuit. He has also been charged with murder in connection with the Friday shootings.
All three men are held in a Kentucky jail on $2 million cash bond each.
Sims, who is awaiting prosecution in Marion County for felony possession of a controlled substance has also reported living in Danville and Chicago.
