MOUNT VERNON — A 17-year-old male juvenile has been arrested in connection with the Friday night shooting death of a man in Mt. Vernon.

According to the Mount Vernon Police Department, the teen was arrested in the 2000 block of Lamar in connection with the homicide death of 26-year-old Deandray Jackson, of California. The juvenile was charged with Armed Robbery and Mob Action.

The juvenile was transported to the Franklin County Juvenile Detention Facility pending a court appearance in Jefferson County Court.

This is an on-going investigation with additional arrests expected.

Mt. Vernon police, Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies and Illinois State Police Crime Scene Unit technicians responded to multiple reports around 5:43 p.m. Friday, of gunshots fired in the area around South 19th and Conger, with one person reported as being shot.

Jackson, who was in the area visiting family, was located in the area and was taken to Crossroads Hospital where he was later pronounced dead. No other injuries were reported in the incident.
