MARION COUNTY — An Odin mother of newborn twins is battling with the State of Illinois to see one of her babies receives medical coverage she’s been paying for.

According to a story Thursday night on KMOV, Kenea Williams’s twin boys were born prematurely. Her son Kade is in good health, but her son Kobe is facing death because Illinois isn’t paying its bills.

Kenea works for the State of Illinois and despite paying her premiums for her employee medical insurance, the state isn’t paying the bills.

Because of Illinois’ billions in unpaid bills, a life-saving oxygen machine Kobe needs to stay alive was nearly repossessed when Marion County Sheriff’s deputies showed up at her home to take the machine back to Byrd-Watson.

Kenea told KMOV that she explained the life-or-death situation with her son and the deputies did not take the machine. She has since had the machine replaced with one from another supplier and Byrd-Watson has received their equipment back.

State Representative John Cavaletto, a Republican from Salem, told Channel 4 that lawmakers are aware that the budget situation has become life or death for some people, but he calls the budget situation “complicated” and requiring “tough calls.”
