EAST ST. LOUIS — A 50-year-old Belleville man has been formally charged in federal court with the Friday robbery of a Collinsville bank.

Michael S. Putman was charged Saturday with a one-count criminal complaint of bank robbery for the alleged robbery Friday of Regions Bank in Collinsville.

In court Tuesday Putman was ordered held without bond pending indictment.

If convicted, he faces a term in prison of up to 20 years, a fine up to $250,000 and a term of supervised release of up to five years.

The case was investigated by the Collinsville Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation with assistance from the Illinois State Police, East St. Louis Police Department and the United States Marshal Service. The case is assigned to Assistant United States Attorney Ali Summers.
