MARION COUNTY — A high-speed chase Friday night has landed a 20-year-old Salem man in the Marion County jail after sheriff’s deputies attempted to stop his vehicle for having only one headlight.

According to reports, Justin Landreth was traveling on U.S. Highway 51 near Red Stripe Road just south of Sandoval Friday when instead of stopping for the traffic stop he allegedly accelerated and took deputies on a high-speed pursuit through Sandoval while swerving on the roadway and passing other vehicles.

With speeds reaching 125 miles per hour, the vehicle reportedly turned onto Britt Road and then onto Wisher Road in rural Patoka and became stuck after hitting a fence and railroad ties. Landreth is alleged to have then fled the scene on foot. Deputies unsuccessfully searched for the at that time unidentified driver in the nearby woods but after locating Landreth’s ringing phone in the vehicle they determined he was their suspect.

Landreth was apprehended a short time later when a deputy found him walking along U.S. 51 near Patoka.

He was taken to the Marion County jail for alleged aggravated fleeing and eluding police, driving while license revoked, improper lighting, improper lane usage, and speeding.
