Defense attorney Scott Quinn raised the question Tuesday of Joshua Hart’s fitness.

A follow-up hearing today will likely see the court order Hart to undergo a mental fitness evaluation to determine if he is capable of standing trial.

Hart was arrested in January after he allegedly hijacked a vehicle at gunpoint in the Taco Bell parking lot in Mt. Vernon.

He allegedly held a woman at gunpoint inside her vehicle and ordered her to take him to Effingham.

Court records show she fled her vehicle and sought help at the restaurant’s drive-thru window as Hart attempted to drive her car from the parking lot, but became stuck on a concrete curb. He then fled the scene on foot.

Hart was later captured and transported to the Jefferson County Jail and was charged with Class X felony aggravated vehicular hijacking with a weapon and Class 1 felony vehicular hijacking, with bail set at $200,000.

A few days after his arrest, Hart was taken to Crossroads Community Hospital where he reportedly shoved a table at a corrections officer and attempted to escape from custody.

He was subsequently charged with escape and aggravated battery to a peace officer, both Class 2 felonies.
