CENTRALIA — High winds are being blamed for a fire to a shed Monday afternoon in rural Centralia.

According to Kell firefighters, the winds stirred up a fire in hot ashes that had been dumped from a wood stove onto a trash pile.

The fire in the 3300 block of Phelps road had spread from the trash pile to a small wooden shed and approximately four of five acres of woods before coming close to the property owner’s home.

Kell received the call about the fire around 3:25 p.m. Monday and remained on the scene until around 6:45 p.m.

Salem and Centralia Fire Protection District firefighters provided mutual aide at the scene.
