MARION COUNTY — A 15-year-old Centralia juvenile male was found not guilty Thursday of firing a gun toward a home in the 800 block of East Hausler, of Centralia, earlier this summer.
The juvenile had been held at the Franklin County Juvenile Detention Facility since his June arrest for aggravated discharge of a firearm.
While there were no reported injuries in the incident, it was just one in a string of reported shots fired at the home or at people outside the home.
The juvenile was released from custody after Judge Michael D. McHaney agreed with the defense that the prosecution had not met its burden of proof.
Prosecution presented three juvenile witnesses to the shooting incident, but one was found to have perjured himself by providing testimony that contradicted the original statement he gave to police.
This is the second juvenile found not guilty in connection with shots fired at the Haussler Street home. Another 15-year-old was cleared of an aggravated discharge of a firearm charge in a bench trial earlier this month when the defense provided two alibi witnesses that placed the defendant in Sparta at the time the shots were fired.
A 21-year-old resident of the Hausler Street home, Michah Williams, was hit by gunfire during another incident.
Williams has been charged with unlawful use of a weapon for allegedly having a loaded 22 caliber pistol in his car during a June 27th traffic stop. The charge was reportedly increased from a misdemeanor due to Williams not having a FOID card or concealed carry license.
