CENTRALIA — A 49-year-old McLeansboro man was reportedly injured Saturday night when his motorcycle struck the rear of a car still on the roadway from an earlier wreck north of Centralia.

According to Illinois State Police, around 9:36 p.m. Saturday night, Ricky Taylor was traveling northbound on old U.S. 51 a mile north of Centralia when his motorcycle struck a car involved in the earlier crash.

That car was being driven by 45-year-old Lesa Oettle of North Broadway in Central City, was ticketed for driving under the influence, leaving the scene of an injury accident and improper lane usage.

ISP says Oettle had earlier been traveling southbound on old U.S. 51 when her vehicle crossed over into the northbound lane, went into the ditch, hit a culvert, and traveled back onto the roadway where it came to a stop.

A third vehicle driven by 44-year-old Wesley Pigg of Sandoval was passing at the same time Taylor struck the Oettle vehicle. Pigg’s vehicle was damaged by some of the debris.

Taylor was taken to SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia for treatment. Oettle and Pigg did not seek hospital treatment.
