MOUNT VERNON — Mt. Vernon police arrested two men over the weekend in connection with a suspicious fire we told you about Friday.
According to police, just before 8 a.m. Friday, Mt. Vernon police officers and firefighters with the Mt. Vernon Fire Department responded to a report of a residential fire in the 1300 block of South 26th.
The fire was determined to be suspicious in nature. Investigators from the Mt Vernon Police Department Detective Division, Mt Vernon Fire Department and State of Illinois Fire Marshall’s Office responded to investigate.
No injuries were reported.
As a result of the investigation, 35-year-old Perice Ladd and 26-year-old Equinton Wilks were arrested on charges of arson. Wilks was additionally charged with resisting/obstructing an officer.
Both men remain in the Jefferson County Jail awaiting the formal filing of charges and the setting of bail.
