MARION COUNTY — A 49-year-old Centralia man has been formally charged in Marion County court with a Class X felony for the alleged sexual assault of a child.

Carl L. Privatt was formally charged Friday with predatory criminal sexual assault of a victim under the age of 13. A Class X felony is punishable by between 6 and 30 years in prison if convicted.

He was arrested by Marion County Sheriff’s deputies following an investigation.

Privatt remains in the Marion County Jail with bail and a date for a preliminary hearing to be set.
