JEFFERSON COUNTY — A 20-year-old Mt. Vernon man was sentenced Wednesday in Jefferson County court to 7-years in prison after he pleaded guilty to the most serious charge against him stemming from a 2018 shooting incident.

Isley Petties was one of three individuals arrested and charged in connection the daylight shooting last September of an individual on a Mt. Vernon street.

Petties was arrested along with 23-year-old Alexis James and 20-yaer-old Roderick Burnett Jr. after allegedly fleeing the scene of the shooting in a vehicle that was quickly spotted by the Jefferson County coroner.

Petties was charged with Class X felony aggravated battery through the discharge of a firearm, Class 1 felony aggravated discharge of a firearm at an occupied vehicle or structure, two Class 4 counts obstruction and one Class 4 count of mob action. In a separate and previous case he was charged with Class 1 aggravated discharge of a firearm and Class 4 obstruction for an unrelated January 2018 incident.

He pleaded guilty in court Wednesday to the Class X felony charge in exchange for the other charges being dismissed. Petties was given credit for 370 days served in the Jefferson County Jail.

Burnett pleaded guilty in May to Class 1 felony aggravated discharge of a firearm into an occupied building and was sentenced to 5-years in prison. A Class 3 felony charge of possessing a firearm with a revoked FOID was dismissed per the guilty plea.

James was also in court on the charges Wednesday but requested a continuance in his case. He’s also charged with Class 1 felony aggravated discharge of a firearm and Class 4 felony obstruction. It’s unclear when he is next required to appear in court.
