MOUNT VERNON — A 51-year-old Irvington woman is in the Jefferson County Jail after Mt. Vernon Police were called to a storage facility on a report of a theft in progress early Wednesday morning.

Police received the call at about 1:15 a.m. Wednesday of a theft at the U-Store-It facility on Veterans Memorial Drive on Mt. Vernon’s south side. When police arrived, Kristi Minnix reportedly tried to discard a bag and flee police by backing out and away in her vehicle. However, she was unable to get away from police and they took Minnix into custody.

According to Mt. Vernon Police Chief Trent Page, the investigation progressed overnight with officers locating Sudafed based pills on Minnix. They also reportedly found syringes and ammunition in the bag Minnix attempted to get rid of. A quantity of meth was reportedly found inside her vehicle.

Police obtained a search warrant for the storage units Minnix was in later Wednesday morning and reportedly found firearms in the units.

Minnix was originally taken into custody on charges of attempting to flee/elude an officer, illegal possession of ammunition/FOID, manufacturing/delivery of between 10 and 30 grams of meth, possession of hypodermic syringe/needles/etc., and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Page says with the firearms being recovered from the storage unit, more charges are possible.
