SALEM — One person has died following a Tuesday afternoon fire at a home in the 200 block of South Vincent in Salem.
The woman had been taken from the scene of the house fire Tuesday to Salem Township Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
According to the Salem Fire Department, the victim had made it to the front door of the home before she collapsed.
Her husband pulled her from the home and started performing CPR on her before first responders arrived, took over CPR and transported her to the hospital.
The husband was treated at the scene.
An autopsy was scheduled to be performed on the woman Wednesday afternoon to try and determine the cause of death.
When Salem firefighters arrived on the scene Tuesday they observed smoke coming from the roof vents and heavy smoke in the interior of the home. EMS were already on scene and attending to the man and his wife.
Flames damaged at least two rooms in the house, with heavy smoke damage throughout. It appears the fire started on a counter-top between the kitchen and the dining area.
