Jeri Carpenter appeared in custody Thursday to be formally charged with Class X felony drug-induced homicide after Centralia police identified her as being responsible for providing Mathew Proksha with the drugs that resulted in his death.
Toxicology results indicated that Proksha died of a Fentanyl overdose.
But during her Thursday court appearance Carpenter, who was brought into court in a wheelchair, would nod but was otherwise not responsive.
Due to her non-responsiveness, bail in her case was not set Thursday and a separate bail hearing was scheduled for Friday.
A Class X felony is punishable by between 6 and 30 years in prison if convicted. Details of the investigation that led to Carpenter’s arrest have been submitted to the Marion County State’s Attorney’s office for review to see if additional charges can be brought against another subject involved.
