CENTRALIA — The Illinois Department of Corrections is reporting that vehicles entering the prison facility Friday were being stopped for security purposes.

According to IDOC Spokeswoman Lindsey Hess, safety and security purposes, routine searches are performed on vehicles entering IDOC correctional facilities.

Hess also confirms the agency is currently investigating the death last week of an inmate at a women’s prison.

Hess reports that 29-year-old Kayla Blair died Sunday, January 19, 2020, at Logan Correctional Center in Lincoln.

She says upon the discovery of the death, IDOC immediately launched an investigation and an autopsy was being performed by the Logan County coroner.
