MARION COUNTY — Marion County Coroner Troy Cannon has released the statistical data for Calendar Year 2019 regarding death investigations in Marion County.
According to Cannon, overall, there were 406 deaths in Marion County last year.
Of those, 388 were coroner cases, and 18 were medical.
In 2018, there were 500 deaths, 473 of which were coroner’s cases.
The Coroner’s Office conducted 18 autopsies, up from 11 in 2018.
There were 242 cremations authorized in 2019, up from 191 in 2018.
2019 saw 375 deaths from natural causes, 466 in 2018.
Of those, 84 were related to various cancers in 2019, 122 in 2018.
Accidental deaths in 2019 totaled 21, 23 in 2018. Of those, 7 were traffic-related, 1 occupational, 7 from drug overdoses, and 6 considered “other.” In 2018, there were 3 traffic deaths, 1 occupational, 6 from drugs, and 13 classified as “other.”
There were 7 suicides in 2019, 8 in 2018.
Three deaths in 2019 were determined to be homicides, two in 2018.
Cannon notes that the numbers given represent deaths occurring within the geographic boundaries of Marion County only, and do not include deaths of citizens who were transferred to regional hospitals beyond Marion County, or deaths of our citizens occurring elsewhere.
