The Jefferson County Health Department has announced two new cases of COVID-19 in the county.

In a release Thursday morning, the department identified two new COVID-19 cases. One is a woman in her 70s who is being isolated at a local hospital and another woman is in her 60s, who is in isolation at her home.

To date, there are 78 lab-confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 in the county, two of them resulting in deaths. Six of the positive cases have now been released from isolation.

Marion County on Thursday was reporting one new positive case, for a total of 25 confirmed cases and 354 negative tests. Clinton County reported two new cases, for a total of 51 positives and 195 tests coming back negative. 15 patients in Clinton County have recovered, 32 are in isolation at home, and four are hospitalized. Fayette County is still reporting 15 positive cases, with one death.

Public Health officials expect more positive cases to be confirmed locally.

Statewide, Illinois hit another daily high Wednesday with more than 2,000 new coronavirus cases reported over the previous 24 hours.

Those cases brought the total in Illinois to 35,108. An additional 98 deaths  brought the total number of deaths to 1,565.
