CENTRALIA — A 17-year-old Centralia juvenile has been arrested on multiple charges including attempted murder in connection with a shooting incident Saturday afternoon.
According to Centralia Police Chief Greg Dodson, officers responded at 3:22 p.m. Saturday to a report of shots fired in the 800 block of Jackson Street in Centralia.
When officers arrived in the area they were told that the victim had fled to the 700 block of North Lincoln Street and wished to speak to an officer.
Officers made contact with 18-year-old Davion J. Martin, of Centralia, who stated that he had been the victim in the shooting and that he knew and could identify the 17-year-old juvenile who fired the shots at him.
He said the juvenile was angry with him over a past dispute and started an altercation with him while he was visiting a residence in the 800 block of Jackson.
According to Martin, the juvenile retrieved a gun and started firing at him. Martin then got into his vehicle in order to flee the area but the juvenile continued to fire shots at Martin and his car.
Police reportedly located five bullet holes in the vehicle. Two of the bullet holes came through the vehicle’s front windshield.
Police believe 10 to 14 shots were fired at the victim during the altercation. The juvenile was ultimately entered as a person of interest to be located and arrested in relation to the shooting.
At approximately 1:30 a.m. Sunday, the Salem Police Department responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle and located and took into custody the juvenile suspect in the shooting.
He was then transported to the Marion County Sheriff’s Department for questioning by the Centralia Police Department. CPD detectives attempted to interview the suspect but he reportedly refused to give any statement.
According to Dodson, the juvenile suspect is a known gang member and has been involved and or mentioned in several other cases involving shots fired.
