CLAY COUNTY — The Illinois State Police is investigating the body of a 29-year-old Edgewood man that was found by a man checking a field Saturday near the Clay County/Effingham County line.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Department on Saturday reportedly requested ISP conduct a death investigation at 13832 First Avenue in Mason after the body of Austin D. Woods on a farm road in rural Clay County.

An autopsy was conducted Sunday at the Clay County Hospital but the cause of death has not yet been released.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office is assisting ISP DCI Zone 8 with this open and on-going investigation. No additional information is being released at this time.
