Kyle Matthews was initially arrested in April 2018 by Clinton County authorities after several law enforcement agencies executed a search warrant.
The day before, the Clinton County Sheriff’s Department received information that a man allegedly entered a Carlyle bar with what looked like a homemade pipe bomb.
The search warrant resulted in bomb-making materials, bomb components, about 30 firearms and a large amount of ammunition being confiscated, according to the Clinton County Sheriff’s Department.
Following Matthews’ arrest in April 2018, the Clinton County Sheriff’s reported having received several reports of explosions near Matthews’ home in the weeks leading up to his arrest.
He was charged with illegal possession of a machine gun described as a 9 mm Mark II Sten-type gun, possessing an unregistered firearm silencer and possessing an unregistered short-barreled rifle described as an Anderson AM15 semiautomatic rifle.
Matthews pleaded guilty in June 2019 to possessing the semiautomatic rifle in exchange for the other two counts being dismissed.
Special conditions of his probation are that Matthews will have to participate in mental health services and any recommended treatment.
