JEFFERSON COUNTY — Bail was set Monday at $400,000 for a 36-year-old Mt. Vernon man arrested over the weekend on charges related to the manufacture of methamphetamine.

According to the Mt. Vernon Police Department, around 4:45 p.m. Saturday, members of the Mt Vernon Police Department/Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department High-Risk Team executed a Jefferson County Search warrant at a residence located at 20300 North Miller Lake Lane.

Following an investigation by the Mt Vernon Police Department/Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department Joint Narcotic’s Unit, Paul W McCormick was taken into custody.

He was formally charged Monday in Jefferson County Court with Class X felony manufacture of between 100 and 400 grams of methamphetamine, and Class 2 felonies for possession of meth manufacturing material and disposal of meth manufacturing waste.

After the residence was secure, members of the Narcotics Unit conducted a search of the property.

During the search, detectives reportedly located items used in the manufacturing of methamphetamine.

An Illinois State Police Methamphetamine Response Team also responded to assist narcotics detectives with clean up.

After further investigation, McCormick, was taken to the Jefferson County Jail where he remains, with a September 24 preliminary hearing scheduled along with a first appearance with his court-appointed attorney.
