JACKSON COUNTY, IL — The ex-wife of an IDOT worker found dead following a traffic crash in a construction zone in Jackson County Wednesday morning is facing several charges including First-Degree Murder and Aggravated Domestic Battery in her ex-husband’s death.

According to the Jackson County State’s Attorney’s Office, 41-year-old Alexis Stallman is accused of stabbing Edward Stallman.

Stallman was involved in the traffic crash that happened around 10:50 a.m. on Highway 127 and Ava Road in Murphysboro.

When Jackson County Sheriff’s deputies arrived, they found Stallman unresponsive. A bystander happened upon the traffic crash and began CPR. Stallman was taken to St. Joseph’s Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office says the crash turned into a suspected murder due to Stallman’s injuries.

Alexis Stallman is lodged in the Jackson County Jail.
