Kenny Sledge, 78, of Wayne City, IL passed away on Saturday, August 6, 2022 at his home in Wayne City.

Kenny was born in Willow Run, MI on June 2, 1944.  On February 20, 1965, he married Norma Lee (Melton) Sledge, who survives.  He worked for many years as a meat cutter for Esmon & Wood Market and later for Sharp’s Food Mart in Wayne City.  He went on to later own & operate Ken’s Meat Market in Wayne City.  He was a member of the First Christian Church in Wayne City.

Kenny enjoyed mowing on his riding mower, sitting on his porch and watching the traffic go by and waving at people, and riding around town on his bicycle.  Kenny was a people person, and enjoyed having conversations with people.  He was a little league baseball coach for many years, and he enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports.  He enjoyed spending time with his friends and family, and he loved his grandchildren. He was an avid Chicago Cubs baseball fan.

Kenny is survived by his wife Norma Lee Sledge of Wayne City, a daughter Tammy (Ryan) Sledge of Bluford, IL; 2 sons: Jeff (Rachel) Sledge of Wayne City and Monty (Shelley) Sledge of Mt. Vernon, IL; 8 grandchildren: Olivia Barbee, Victoria Sledge, Kyle Sledge, Kennedy Sledge, Gracen Sledge, Walker Sledge, Radley Eilerts, and Mazie Eilerts; 1 great grandson Kingston Thomas; and 2 brothers: Edward Sledge of Keenes, IL and Danny Cowan of Wayne City.

He was preceded in death by his mother Maxine Marie Cowan, step father Gerald Cowan, and a brother David Cowan.

Funeral services for Kenny Sledge will be held at 10 am on Wednesday, August 10, 2022 at Young Funeral Home in Wayne City, IL with Pastor Steve Griswold officiating.  Visitation will be held from 4 pm until 7 pm on Tuesday, August 9, 2022 at Young Funeral Home.  Interment will follow the funeral services at Thomason Cemetery in Wayne City, IL.  Online condolences, memories, and words of encouragement may be left at www.youngfuneralhomellc.com
