MOUNT VERNON — Wanda Jean Hill, 86, of Mt. Vernon, Illinois passed away September 26, 2022, at Countryside Manor.

She was born October 18, 1935, in Mt. Vernon, IL, the daughter of Earl and Lucille (Reese) Rainwater.

The family chose simple cremation. There will be no public visitation or service at this time. Burial will take place at a later date with an inurnment in Maple Hill Cemetery, Elwood, IL. Wanda, a natural-born provider, personally served and helped others for many years in the Elwood area. She loved to cook for friends and family, enjoyed flower gardening and was of the Baptist faith. Her sons will remember her as “a real mom, ” both to them and many others.

She united in marriage, on June 7, 1952, in Mr. Vernon with Lester Hill. He preceded her in death on March 18, 2010.

Survivors include her children, Rick Hill and his wife Amy, Gary Hill, and Rodney Hill all of Mt. Vernon. Also her grandchildren Jason (Jennifer) Hill of Essex, IL, Nick Hill of Omaha, NB, Alec (Clare) Hill of Elwood, IL and great-grandson, Jaxson Hill.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Michael W. Hill.
