Delmar “Big Vernie” Owens, Jr. 74, of Woodlawn, Illinois, passed away at 9:32 am December 1, 2022 at his residence.

He was born September 9, 1948 in Randolph County, Illinois to the late Delmar and Wilhelmina “Winnie” (Sparling) Owens.

Delmar married Brenda (Robison) Owens on December 10, 1966 in Sparta, Illinois. They were blessed with nearly 56 years of marriage.In addition to his beloved wife, Delmar is survived by his son, Delmar “Little Vernie” Owens III of Woodlawn; daughters, Cheryl Sharpe and husband, Brad of Woodlawn and Cindy White and husband, Ron of Collinsville, Illinois; grandchildren, Bryson Owens and wife, Jerrica, Cody Owens, Macey Sharpe, Gracey Sharpe, and Noah White; sisters, Diana Hargis of Sesser, Illinois, Martha Curry and husband, Bob of Sesser, Illinois, and Michelle Moore of Alto Pass, Illinois; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, Delmar was preceded in death by his sister, Donna Lynn Crews.

A Visitation will be held Monday, December 5, 2022 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. A Funeral Service will begin at 11:00 am with Reverend Paul Hahn officiating. A Graveside Service will be held Monday, December 5, 2022 at 2:00 pm Tildon City Cemetery in Tilden, Illinois.
