ILLINOIS (RFD) — A popular conservation program for farmers is open today for enrollment and its growing in size.

The Fall Covers for Spring Savings program allows farmers to receive a $5 discount on their spring crop insurance if they plant cover crops on those acres. Brian Rennecker with the Illinois Department of Agriculture says this year the program is expanding.

All acres are filled on a first come first served basis.

Enrollment opens today (Thursday, December 15) at 8 am – last year the program was filled in less than 24 hours.
