MOUNT VERNON — Eugene Atwood, 92, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 12:50 pm May 23, 2023, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh, Indiana. He was born November 27, 1930, in Matoka, West Virginia to the late Dave and Maggie (Winters) Atwood. Eugene married Patricia (Thompson) Atwood on November 4, 1950.

In addition to his beloved wife of nearly seventy-three years, Eugene is survived by his son, Norman Eugene Atwood of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; daughter, Patti Jean Wease of Mount Vernon, Illinois; brothers, Bobby and Martin Atwood; and sister, Loretta Atwood.

In addition to his parents, Eugene was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Willard Wease and one sister.

Eugene proudly served his country in the United States Marines. He worked as a machinist for many years for Allis-Chalmers Tractor in Harvey, Illinois.

A Graveside Service will be held Sunday, May 28, 2023, at 1:00 pm at Bethel Memorial Cemetery in Mount Vernon, Illinois. Interment will follow.
