WAYNE CITY — Donnie “Doc” Lee Lappin, 88, of Wayne City, IL passed away on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, at Green Tree Assisted Living in Mt. Vernon, IL.  Donnie was born March 25, 1935, in Wayne City, IL to Frank & Loraine (Meyers) Lappin.  On September 3, 1955, he married Karen Zoe (Payne) Lappin, who survives.

He graduated from Wayne City High School in 1954 and worked with his father as a welder in his welding shop.  “Doc” then worked for the Wayne City Water Plant for 28 years.  He was a member of the Wayne City Baptist Church.  He was an avid bird hunter.  He liked feeding and watching the birds and squirrels in his backyard.  He also enjoyed taking evening drives to look for deer.

He is survived by his wife Karen Zoe Lappin, 2 brothers-in-law: Connie Lee Payne and Robert D. Payne, a sister Mary Lou Belmont, long-time friends & caregivers Beverly & Von Anderson, and several nieces & nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Frank & Loraine Lappin, 2 brothers-in-law: Nolan Ray Payne and Bill Belmont, and sister-in-law Lema Alberta (Payne) Murah.

Funeral services for Donnie “Doc” Lee Lappin will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 4, 2023, at the Archie L. Sanders Memorial Chapel in Wayne City, IL with Pastor Jay Loucks officiating.  Visitation will be held from 1:30 p.m. until the time of service at 2:30 p.m. at the Archie L. Sanders Memorial Chapel.  Interment will follow the funeral services at Thomason Cemetery in Wayne City.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Thomason Cemetery Fund and will be accepted at the chapel, or at Young Funeral Home in Wayne City.
