HOYLETON, Ill. — Norman G. Sprehe passed away on July 7th, 2023 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon.

He was born on October 15th, 1935 to Gustav H. Sprehe and Lena M. (Harre) Sprehe. Norman married Martha “Susie” Sprehe on October 24th, 1954 in Hoyleton Illinois. She preceded him in death on January 10, 2005, after 51 years of marriage.

Norman was a basketball referee for 20 years and enjoyed every second of officiating the sport. He fondly participated in woodworking. He would make wooden crosses to share with others. Along with woodworking, he also participated in glass crafts. His fondest glass crafts include his collection of Christmas Lights, which he and others could admire at any time of the year. Norman was a family man and enjoyed spending quality time with his family, especially his grandkids.

Norman is survived by his long-time friend Katherine James; son Bradley D. Sprehe and wife Jill C. of Tampa, FL; sister Viola Reuter of Centralia; grandchildren Kyle Sprehe and spouse Andrea, Kristen Kull and spouse Mark, Kory Sprehe, Levi Sprehe and spouse Amanda, Taylor Tinsley and spouse Miles, Isiah Sprehe, and Addison Sprehe; and nine great-grandchildren.

Norman was preceded in death by his wife, parents, son Craig Sprehe; brother Marvin Sprehe.

Visitation for Norman will take place from 9:00-11:00 am on Saturday, July 15th, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hoyleton, with a service to follow at 11:00 am with Pastor James Hennig officiating. Burial will follow at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Hoyleton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Trinity Lutheran Church in Hoyleton and will be accepted at the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home in Centralia, which is honored to be of service to the Sprehe family.
