CENTRALIA — Gary C. Yarbrough, 73, passed away at his home in Centralia surrounded by his family, on July 19, 2023.

He was born November 25, 1949 in Peoria, Illinois. Son of Jack Sr. and Bess Yarbrough.

Gary is survived by his wife Karen; Children, Brian (Jess) Yarbrough of Centralia, Kenny (Sandy) Yarbrough of Vandalia, Tracy (Craig) Marse of Centralia, Jason (Dusty) Yarbrough of Sandoval, Kimi (John) Barr of Centralia, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, along with special granddaughter Sally Lou Yarbrough, who he raised. Also survived by brother Mack (Carmen) Yarbrough of Walnut Hill and sister Kitty Dobbs of Steelville, Missouri; along with numerous nieces and nephews. Gary was loved by his numerous friends.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Sally (Sanders) who passed in 1998, his parents, sister Sandra Tindel, brothers Larry Yarbrough (his twin) and Jack C. Yarbrough Jr., and nephews Billy Dobbs and Adam Yarbrough.

Gary was a proud US Marine Veteran who received a purple heart for being wounded in battle while serving in Vietnam from 1968 to 1969, before joining the Air Force from 1969 to 1970. After the military service, Gary worked for the railroad and as an over-the-road truck driver. One of Gary’s greatest joys was spending time with his friends and family.
Funeral services for Gary C. Yarbrough will be held Sunday July 23, 2023 at 1:00 pm at the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home in Centralia with Pastor Steve Upchurch officiating. Burial will follow at Gilead Cemetery in Centralia with Military Rites at the grave by the American Legion Post 446 and V.F.W. Post 2055.

Visitation will be held Saturday, July 22, 2023 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm at the funeral home. In memory of Gary, memorial donations may be made to the family and will be accepted at the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home at 235 North Sycamore Street Centralia, Illinois 62801, (618)532-3523, who is honored to be of service to the Yarbrough family.
