MOUNT VERNON — Mason J. Johnston, 22, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 9:13 pm July 18, 2023 at Fairfield Memorial Hospital in Fairfield, Illinois after a courageous battle following a motorcycle accident.

He was born February 20, 2001 in Mount Vernon, Illinois to John and Sheila (Angle) Johnston.

In addition to his parents, Mason is survived by his son, Chandler Johnston of Mount Vernon; siblings, Johnny Johnston of Centralia, Illinois, Lacie Angle of Vincennes, Indiana, Jordan Huffman and wife, Emmy of Owego, New York, Charlie Hart Johnston of Connecticut, and Preston Johnston and significant other, Hayle Bertram of Odin, Illinois; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.

Mason was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mildred and Charles Johnston, and Richard and Shirley Angle; uncle, Jim Johnston; aunts, Elsa Pitts and Deana Akers; and cousin, Little Ronnie Johnston.

Mason worked for Continental Tire in Mount Vernon. His son Chandler was his whole world. He loved him very much. Mason will be deeply missed by his family and friends. His memory will live on through Chandler and all who loved him dearly. Mason’s last gesture of love was the gift of organ donation.

A Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 25, 2023 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. A Funeral Service will begin at 7:00 pm with Pastor Jason Newell officiating.
