MOUNT VERNON — Joe Willie Elion, 56, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away December 18, 2023, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Indiana. He was born April 28, 1967, in Memphis, Tennessee to Isabel (Love) Elion and the late Joe Willie Elion, Sr. Joe married Cora (Shelby) Elion on October 8, 1999, in Mount Vernon.  They were blessed with 11 years of marriage before her passing on December 9, 2010.

In addition to his mother, Joe is survived his siblings, LaTanya Elion and Otis Elion, both of Mount Vernon; stepdaughters, Corliss Shelby and Christina Antoinette Shelby, both of Mount Vernon; and step-grandchildren, Jaylyn Phillips, Eliajh Bapp, Miguel “M.J.” Rios, Morgan Bapp, Markell Shelby, and Corvin Spann.

In addition to his father and beloved wife, Joe was preceded in death by his siblings, Charlotte Elion and Contrel Elion.

A Visitation will be held Saturday, December 30, 2023, from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at New Life Missionary Baptist Church in Mount Vernon. A Funeral Service will begin at 11:00 am with Reverend Delano Scott officiating. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Mount Vernon.
