SANDOVAL, Ill. — Sandoval police are investigating a Sunday morning incident in which a female went to the hospital after reportedly being struck in the head with a hatchet.

According to Marion County Sheriff Kevin Cripps, they received a 9-1-1 call Sunday morning from a woman screaming she’d been struck in the head with a hatchet.

She was on her way to the hospital by the time sheriff’s deputies arrived at the residence in the 300 block of South Maple.

At that time no one would answer the door for deputies at the residence where the attack reportedly occurred.

Deputies then called Sandoval Pd who took over the investigation, but Sheriff Cripps did note deputies went out to assist Sandoval police with a search warrant issued in the case.

Sandoval Police Chief Joe Lyons says the case remains under investigation and no arrests have been made.

Names of those involved are being withheld at this time.

The extent of injuries to the reported victim in the incident is unknown.
