MOUNT VERNON — Helen N. Hamilton, 92, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 7:32 am February 6, 2024 at her residence. She was born July 30, 1931 to her parents Curtis B. Osborn and Ina Mackenzie Osborn in Mt. Vernon, IL.

She married Roy L. Hamilton October 1, 1948 and they were married for seventy-one years. She is survived by her son Ronald L. Hamilton and wife Karen; grandson Daniel L. Hamilton and wife Laura; granddaughter Laura Tanguturi and husband Dr. Harsha; great grandchildren Bingham and Barrett Hamilton; Kusher and Wrenna Tanguturi and blessed with many special nephews, nieces and great-nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Roy and infant son Gary; brother John Thomas Osborn and wife Nina, brother Benjamin F. Osborn and wife Virginia; sister Margaret Williamson and husband Leslie and infant sister Louise; sister Edna Bickley and husband Clyde; sister Janet Sallee and husband William H. Sallee.

Helen graduated from Mt. Vernon Township High School in 1948 and became employed at Nelsen Concrete Culvert Company for twenty-one years. Later she became a Real Estate Broker. She and Roy enjoyed building several new homes and remodeling other ones. The became co-owner and managers of Dix Lumber for several years until retirement. Helen became a Christian at an early age and joined the Methodist Church serving through the years on various committees and helping where needed. She has been a long time member of West Salem Trinity Methodist Church. She and Roy delivered Meals on Wheels and served at a local “soup kitchen”. Helen and Roy traveled in most of the United States and many other countries with the highlights being visiting in Israel and the Highlands of Scotland with relatives. She was quite fond of animals, particularly her many cats and horses. She learned to ride at an early age and enjoyed riding in an Exhibition Drill Team show at county fairs and riding in parades. She also enjoy the outdoors and sunshine, spending fun times with friends at the “Rec Club”. Helen will be missed by many family, friends, ministries and any who had the privilege to know her.  Her Christian life and power of prayer guided her through her daily living.

A Visitation will be held Saturday, February 17, 2024 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at West Salem Trinity Church. A Funeral Service will begin at 11:00 am with Reverend Harold “Bumper” Quick officiating. Interment will follow at New Shiloh Cemetery in Mount Vernon, Illinois.
