WASHINGTON COUNTY — Washington County authorities report a 71-year-old Nashville, Illinois man was killed Monday afternoon in a vehicle crash on Illinois State Route 15 near County Highway 11.
According to Washington County Coroner Mark Styinger, around 4:50 p.m. Monday, his office was dispatched to the scene of the motor vehicle crash on Illinois State Route 15 where Chief Deputy Coroner Steve Fletcher pronounced 71-year-old George W. Davis, of Nashville, dead at 5:04 p.m.
Davis was the unrestrained driver of a westbound SUV on Route 15 which reportedly ran off the north side of the road, over compensated and ran off the south side of the road which caused the vehicle to flip.
Styninger say Davis was ejected from the vehicle and the vehicle came to rest on top of him. It is believed that he suffered a medical condition which led to the crash. Toxicology samples were obtained by Deputy Coroner Fletcher for routine testing.
Washington County Ambulance Service, Nashville Police Department, Washington County Sheriff’s Department, Nashville Fire Department, Washington County EMA and the Washington County Coroner’s Office alll responded to the scene of the crash.
According to Styninger, the cause of death appears to be massive head and chest trauma and manner of death is accidental. The crash continues to be investigated by the Washington County Sheriff’s Department and the Washington County Coroner’s Office.
