MARION COUNTY — A 28-year-old man is in the Marion County Jail following his arrest on an outstanding warrant issued in 2021 accusing him of multiple child sex offenses.

Brayan Castro-Chavez was arrested Tuesday on the Marion County warrant charging him with two Class X felonies for predatory criminal sexual assault of a person under the age of 13 and two Class 2 felonies for aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a person under the age of 13.

Court records show Chavez was initially arrested in October of 2020, but the warrant for his arrest wasn’t issued until July of the following year and had no geographic limitations. Bail in the case was set at $250,000 at that time and the file was ordered sealed pending Chavez’s arrest.

According to Marion County Sheriff’s records, Chavez was arrested on that warrant in Mississippi and was brought back to Marion County on Tuesday.

We’ve reached out to the Central City Police Department for further details on the case, as it appears they were the investigating agency. We’ll bring you that information when it’s made available.
