MOUNT VERNON — David P. Black, 58, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 2:23 pm February 23, 2024 at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon. He was born June 4, 1965 in Eugene, Oregon to Kenneth W. and Shirley (Dixon) Black. David married Angela (Henson) Black on November 28, 2015 in Giant City Lodge in Carbondale, Illinois.

In addition to his beloved wife of eight years, David is survived by his mother, Shirley Black; son, David “Doc” Black and wife, Kristina of Mount Vernon, Illinois; daughter, Kelsey Black of Mount Vernon, Illinois; grandsons, Hayden Black and Ethan Weatherspoon; brother, Richard Black and wife, Tami of Tampa, Florida; sister, Kendra Krisher and significant other, Bill of Appleton, Wisconsin; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

David was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth W. Black.

David co-owned Mount Vernon Iron Works with his son. He was a member of Rend Lake RC Club and volunteered with Jefferson County Fire Protection. David was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother and will be dearly missed.

A Visitation will be held Thursday, February 29, 2024 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Funeral Service will begin at 8:00 pm with Mr. Matthew Jenson officiating. Memorials may be made in David’s honor to Jefferson County Fire Protection District.
