WALTONVILLE — Larry Dean Funkhouser, 76, of Waltonville, Illinois, passed away at 12:13 am March 21, 2024 at his home. He was born July 13, 1947 in Mount Vernon, Illinois to the late Jerry and Maxine (Ramsey) Funkhouser. Larry married Carol (Latta) Jay Funkhouser on June 5, 1996. They have been blessed with 28 years of marriage.

In addition to his beloved wife, Larry is survived by his sons, George Funkhouser and wife, Crystal of Arizona, Adam Jay and wife, Michelle of Benton, Illinois, Russell Jay and husband, Miles Staglik of California, and Timothy Jay and wife, Starla of Johnston City, Illinois; daughter, Judy Karas of Florida; grandchildren, Sebastian, Brandon, Nicky, Alex, Alexas, Michaela, Gavin, Tegan, Spencer, Michael, Aiden, Nicole, and Katlyn; two great-grandchildren; brother, Alan Funkhouser of LaMont, Illinois; sisters, Karla Waittimore of Mount Vernon and Sharon Eby of Sherwood, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his daughter, Melissa Braddy; brother, Gary Funkhouser; sister, Sandra Burlison; and brother-in-law, Melvin Latta.

Larry was a member of the West City Church of God. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

A Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 26, 2024 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at Newell Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. A Funeral Service will begin at 11:00 am with Pastor Harold Whitlock officiating. Interment will follow at Cubb Prairie Cemetery in Mount Vernon. Memorials may be made in Larry’s honor to Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation.
