MOUNT VERNON — Maureen E. Phillips, 77, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 1:49 am March 29, 2024, at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon.

She was born October 31, 1946, in Turlock, California to the late Hugo Morris and Marion Ellen (Carlson) Peterson. Maureen married Don Phillips on August 28, 1982. They were blessed with 41 years of marriage.

In addition to her beloved husband, Maureen is survived by siblings, Donald Peterson and wife, Susan of Hughson, California, and Debbie Fisher and husband, Ron of Denair, California; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Maureen was an active member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Before Pleasant Hill, she was a member of Central Christian Church. Maureen taught children for years in many churches. She loved the Lord and had a very giving heart. Maureen was a wonderful piano player. She also enjoyed the ocean and the beach. Maureen worked as an optometric assistant in Modesto, California. She was a loving wife, sister, aunt, and friend. Maureen will be deeply missed.

A Visitation will be held Thursday, April 4, 2024, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Mount Vernon. A Funeral Service will begin at 11:00 am with Reverend Jason Webb officiating. Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Mount Vernon. Memorials may be made in Maureen’s honor to Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
