MOUNT VERNON — Eleanor Ruth (Johnson) Coats, 92, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away April 4, 2024 at her home. She was born September 23, 1931 in Denver, Colorado to the late Carl Alford Johnson and Esther Marie Bergliot  (Erickson) Johnson. Eleanor married Robert Gene Coats on June 20, 1964 in Denver. They were blessed with nearly 57 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on April 5, 2021.

Eleanor is survived by her son, Mark Coats of Mount Vernon; daughter, Debbie Coats of Poncha Springs, Colorado; and nieces and nephew, Susie Lay,  Kathy Beckstend, and David Johnson.

In addition to her parents and husband, Eleanor was preceded in death by her son, James Coats; brother, Hal Johnson; and sister-in-law, Colleen (Cox) Johnson.

Eleanor attended Park Avenue Baptist Church. She was a loving mother and will be deeply missed by all who knew and cared for her.

A Visitation will be held Thursday, April 11, 2024 from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. A Graveside Service will be held Saturday, April 13, 2024 at 1:00 pm at Wolford Cemetery in Houston, Missouri. Interment will follow.
