BLUFORD, Ill. — A Sunday night ATV crash in downtown Bluford claimed the life of a 34-year-old Jefferson County man.

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Daniel W. Montgomery, of Bonnie, was driving westbound on E. Short Street in Bluford when the ATV and struck the side of a Chevy SUV traveling northbound on N. Markham Lane.

The impact caused Montgomery to be thrown from the four-wheeler and into the other lane where he was run over by a dark sedan traveling south on N. Markham Lane. The sedan continued south out of the area.

Montgomery was declared deceased at the scene by Jefferson County Coroner Roger Hayse.

An autopsy to determine the cause of the man’s death is scheduled for Wednesday.

Sheriff’s Office is seeking any information from the public to help identify the dark sedan that left the scene after striking Montgomery.
