Linda Schmidt, 89, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 2:17 pm June 11, 2025 at her home. She was born November 23, 1935 in Benton, Illinois to the late William and Anna Bell (Adams) Cochrum. Linda married Larry H. Schmidt on July 20, 1979 in Mount Vernon. They were blessed with 43 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on January 12, 2022.

Linda is survived by her children, John Schmidt of Ransom, Illinois, Amy (Schmidt) Ward and husband, Jeff of Saint Albans, Missouri, Donald Schmidt and wife, Keri of Saunemin, Illinois, and Steven Tate and wife, Jan of Mansfield, Illinois; grandchildren, Adam Ward, Lauren Bazzoli, Caitlin McCracken, Douglas Vaughan, Kelly Henning, Kristy Berwick, Stephen Schmidt, Jr., Matthew Schmidt, Kelsey Schmidt, Ryli Schmidt, Anna Frees, Denise Frees, and Keri Collins; eleven great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren, including Ryker West, Kayson West, and Braxton Reed.

In addition to her parents and beloved husband, Linda was preceded in death by her children, Stephen Schmidt, Robyn Borgan, Joyce Frees, and Dennis Frees; and great-grandson, Aaron Reed.

Linda enjoyed bowling, dancing, playing cards, and fishing. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and the VFW Auxiliary.

A Visitation will be held Monday, June 16, 2025 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. A Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, June 17, 2025 at 10:00 am with Reverend Mark Dye officiating. Interment will follow at Bethel Cemetery in Mount Vernon. Memorials may be made in Linda’s honor to the Wounded Warrior Project.
