Steven Dale Helton, age 68 of Iuka, passed away on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at Salem Township Hospital with his loving wife by his side. Steve was born on March 31, 1957, in Sonoma, California to Jack and Maxine (Rhodes) Berry. He was raised in Kinmundy, Illinois by his mother and stepfather, Doyle Berry. Steve married Sherry Slater in May 2004, and she survives.
Steve loved the open road and spent the majority of his career as an over-the-road truck driver. He was a self-taught mechanic, and he had a fierce love for riding Harley Davidson motorcycles. He enjoyed working on anything with a motor, picking his guitar, tinkering in his garage, and spending time with his family and friends. His laugh was infectious and his love to wander was contagious.
Steve is preceded in death by his mother; father; stepfather; brothers, Mike McGraw and Ronnie Helton; and his daughter, Crystal Helton.
Steve is survived by his wife, Sherry of Iuka; daughter, Stephanie (Cory) Purintun of Salem; and sons Matthew Helton of Salem and Hayden (Bri) Helton of Chapin; stepchildren, Kendra (Aaron) Shoots of Salem, Andrea Ellis of Alma, and Ryan McCarty of Effingham. Steve was blessed with 17 grandchildren.
To honor Steve’s wishes, a public service will not be held at this time. A celebration of life in his honor will be held at a later date. Crouse funeral home is in charge of the arrangements. Online condolences and memories can be left at www.CrouseFH.com.
