Ethel Mae “Mazie” Piper-Leggett, age 88 of Terre Haute, IN, passed away on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at The Gibson Family Center for Hospice Care in Terre Haute.

Mazie was born on October 17, 1937, in Salem, the daughter of Rolland Dudley and Ethel Emma (Gray) Davidson.  She married James Leggett and he preceded her in death on September 19, 2010.

She is survived by two sisters, Marilyn Leckrone and husband Richard of Maryland Heights, MO and Hazel Zimner of Hinsdale; her three children, Curtis Rolland Piper and wife Mary Kay of Salem, Nancy Ethel Martin and husband Michael Todd of Clinton, IN, and Bruce Allen Piper and wife Kimberly Gayle of Evansville, IN; seven grandchildren, Cole Piper and wife Emily, Megan Martin, Jared Piper and wife Lyndsey, Joshua Piper, Abigail Piper and husband Jeffrey, Scotty Martin and wife Aly, and Madilyn Piper; three great-grandchildren, Easton, Levi, and Lottie Ann;  and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Rolland and Ethel; her husband Jim; and siblings, Loren Davidson, Ellen Marie Read, and Margaret Watson.

Mazie was an incredible mother and loving grandmother.  She was larger than life.  Her faith is what guided her, we are comforted knowing that she is finally home, dancing on the streets of gold and has looked upon the face of Jesus.  She was a member of First Christian Church in Salem and the Rogersville Methodist Church in Rogersville, AL.  She worked for many years as a professional secretary before moving to Alabama and starting The Lemon Tree Boutique, which is a thriving business today.

Funeral Services for Ethel Mae “Mazie” Piper-Leggett will be held at Noon on Monday, January 19, 2026, at First Christian Church in Salem with Phil Martin officiating.  A time of visitation will be held from 10:00 am until the time of the service at the church.  Interment will follow at Cubbage Chapel Cemetery in rural Salem.  Memorial contributions can be made to Cubbage Chapel Cemetery and can be received by Crouse Funeral Home.  Online condolences can be left at www.CrouseFH.com
