
Mary Jo Tucker, age 90 of Salem, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, March 21, 2026.
Mary Jo was born on July 16, 1935, in La Clede, Illinois, the daughter of Everett and Glendola (Hill) Sprouse. She married Thomas Tucker and he preceded her in death.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews; and special neighbors and friends, Fred and Donna Kirgan.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; life companion, Walter Anselm; a sister, Virginia Allen; and two brothers, Norman Sprouse and Darsa Sprouse.
Mary Jo was of the Episcopal Faith. She earned her LPN License in Las Vegas, where she worked for several years before moving back to Illinois and working at the Robinson Hospital. She then moved to Jacksonville, Florida and worked for a doctor for several years until she was widowed in her 40’s. She then moved back to Salem and worked at Bryan Manor until her retirement. Mary Jo enjoyed her cats and found companionship in Walter Anslem, and they enjoyed many years together, traveling the world and enjoying each other’s company.
Private graveside services for Mary Jo Tucker will be held at Keen’s Chapel Cemetery in Farina. Memorial donations can be made to the Centralia Humane Society or the Disabled American Veterans and can be received at Crouse Funeral Home in Salem. Online condolences can be left at www.CrouseFH.com
